Ways to stop school violence and Bullying

I really honestly feel that if parents, teachers and even friends take a good look, they will find that there were signs that these kids needed help. Its not just a saying that it takes a whole village to raise a kids..its the God's honest truth there. Its the responsibility of any adult who comes in contact with kids, no matter how long of a time, to open their eyes and see the signs, and to do something about it. The principle case, there were so many signs just in the article that went on with nobody taking any actions. Any adult who came in contact with these kids are responsible for what happened. Yes, what they kids did is horrific, but its worse that they showed signs of wanting/needing help and it was all ignored.

Take a look at the video games, t.v. and music and even alot of books. Our world has become so accepting of alot of things that kids just shouldn't see. I still monitor what my 15 y/o's games;t.v and music, friends and such. Does that make me a bad parent? I don't think so. I respect all my childrens privacy with the understanding that they have that privacy under inspection at any given moment with their knowledge. I would never do so without them there. They understand that I only would do this if I find they're behavior odd or get the feeling that they are hiding something from me.

I really think also that ppl have forgotten how to talk to kids. We as adults are so busy with our lives that we forget to "check in" with the lives we brought into this world. Families sitting down together for meals is rare, turning the t.v. off for a couple days is unheard of and heaven help the parent if we should disipline a child outside of a time out.

All in all, society as a whole is to blame for what is happening to this world and our children in it.

I think people should start at an early age by teaching children respect by example. Like, not calling a child stupid, or retard all the time and promoting positive influence. (Don't use the old "do what I say not what I do" example, as kids are influenced by their environment).
People need to do things more as a family and not be so hurried that they can't talk to their children. And I know people are not going to like this, but parents need to actually screen what children are watching on TV and playing on video games, and what they are doing on the computer. Kids today are living in a fantasy land that they try to imitate movies and games and the reality is there is a problem.

As far as the guns, we have guns at our house that are locked up in a gun case that my husband carries the key with him. While personally I don't like the guns, I know that guns serve a purpose for our protection.

I think that sometimes good parents don't even know that their children are capable of some of the things that they do, but it all has to change and we need to put our children first before all innocence is gone forever.

Many things need to come together in order for violence to be reduced.

1. We should question why movies show an incredible amount of violence and are still rated PG or PG-13.

2. Is it right for video games to enable so much imaginary violence? What externality (cost) does a video game manufacturer/designer pay for injecting violence into society? Currently...none.

3. Rewrite our gun laws. I understand the need for guns in remote places. Laws need to be made to keep them away from young people.

4. Make parents directly responsible for their children's actions. Parents need to know what is going on in their children's lives. Government can only do so much and the burden is on parents to prevent this from happening.
